Why are anti-static safety boots important?

A lot of the market has been ill-informed and believe that anti-static boots are only required for the electrical (Often needs EH) and oil & gas sectors.

Through time spent on the ground, we observed that many transport and construction companies with drivers and operators weren’t using anti-static safety footwear resulting in many of the employees getting shocks exiting the vehicle. How does this cause an electric shock?
A fuel transport driver’s key role is to safely and efficiently load and deliver fuel to key locations.
One of the less-visible risks they can face is the hazard of static electricity, generated while getting in and out of the vehicle.
The effect of this in the role of a fuel transport driver can range from small electric shocks when they touch the door handle to a potential ignition with a disastrous safety impact

All Mustang Boots feature an anti-static outsole to prevent the build-up of static electricity, removing the risk of static shocks from metal doors & handles.

Four Layer-Structured Insole:
Soft and elastic insoles could substantially reduce the foot fatigue you experience daily. That’s why the Think Big series of Mustang Safety Boots has extra thick four layer structured (mesh/form/PU/GEL) removable insoles that provides incredible flexibility and comfort for your feet.

Mustang Shock Absorption System:
With every step you take, you absorb significant shock from the ground. That’s why we designed a Shock Absorption System for our boots. Our work safety boots come inbuilt with PORON® anti-bacterial inserts, in both the ball of the foot, and the heel. These absorb shock in the two highest stress areas of the foot. On top of this, we have included a four layer structured insole, and an energy absorbing midsole, to maximise comfort and stability, while reducing foot, leg and lower back fatigue.

Rubber, TPU and PU Outsoles:
Soling is the most critical part of safety footwear and is determined by the quality of the outsole and its adhesion with the upper. Mustang has partnered with DESMA which develop soling machines and are recognised worldwide as the thermoplastics, vulcanized rubber and reactive polyurethanes injection moulding experts. DESMA is at the top of there game and guarantees the quality of our boots.

World-leading German DESMA Technology:
With world-leading German partner DESMA Technology, Mustang Safety Boots are fabricated to withstand the toughest environmental conditions NZ has to offer. Each product has been developed with a combination of the latest footwear technology and time-honoured crafting techniques to create a truly superior boot.

Very comfortable and durable..... tested boot climbing Mt Maunganui, reliable and fits well in all terrain (no blister or sore foot)

Ame - Truck Driver

Good looking boot, lightweight, good support. Cut-out at back of heel, good for driving

Clive - Truck Driver

They are better than what I was expecting. I have been in them every day since I got them so far, both on site and in the office – so they have had a bit of a hammering.

Are you certain your safety boots are ideal for the job?

When purchasing safety boots for your team, the science of decision-making tells us we’re not as rational as we think we are, and are more likely led by our emotions towards a well-known brand or our drive to save a quick dollar. Opting for cheap boots is a bad idea for several reasons; the risk of accidents and incidents in the workplace, lost man hours due to injury (LTIs), and the threat of regulatory action should your firm fall short of “providing the highest level or protection practicable” as required by H&S regulations.

Here are 4 reasons why neglecting to select appropriate footwear for your staff and choosing the cheapest boot, can be a very costly decision;

1. Your operatives productivity & performance could be hindered
Boots which aren’t fit for purpose will at best impede staff productivity, and at worst could cause a serious incident resulting in a staff members injury.

2. Your employees’ morale will drop leading to staff dissatisfaction
We only get one pair of feet. Making employees wear boots which are uncomfortable, and which will inevitably lead to long-term damage to their feet, will always promote staff dissatisfaction.

3. Higher long term costs to the business
While cheaper boots offer a saving up front, they will usually end up costing more. Many cheap boots only have an average life expectancy of 3-6 months, whereas a quality pair of boots will often last as much as double this amount of time. Not only does this often work out cheaper, but it also means your staff don’t have to put up with uncomfortable footwear.

4. Risk of falling short of Health & Safety compliance
Do the boots you provide your staff “provide the highest level or protection practicable”. If not, is this a risk you are prepared to take?

How do I know if the boots we provide our staff, are suitable for their job?

1. Do you notice your employees walking around with their laces undone? Do you ever hear complaints of pain in the Achilles heel?
2. Do your staff ever complain of foot fatigue?
3. Do you get reports of your drivers getting shocked when exiting the vehicle?
4. Do you issue your staff with slip-on boots?
5. Do your staff work in high-temperature environments, which have caused their boot soles to melt?
6. Do your staff complain of debris finding it’s way into their boots?
7. Do you hear reports of employees slipping while climbing into vehicles?

So you might be thinking, why haven't one of the big names designed a boot like this?
Most big brands were developed by large corporations driven by sales. When it comes to boots, everybody has a slightly different requirement. This means that "a product designed for everyone, is a product for no one".  Care should always be taken when selecting footwear specifically for your industry.

Common Questions:

Do Mustang Safety Boots come with warranty?
Yes. We offer six month factory warranty on all our safety footwear.

Why are your boots lighter than other brands?
Light in weight and heavy in protection is one of our product features. Being light doesn’t mean a cut in quality, but is a benefit of the German DESMA technology that we use.

What does a 200 Joule rating mean?

A joule is equal to the energy expended in applying a force for one metre. The toe cap in safety shoes is often rated by joules. A steel toe cap protects the foot from the impact from falling objects up to a guaranteed value of 200 joules. This impact represents the energy created by a sharp object weighing 20 kilos falling from a height of 1 meter.

What is PU and EVA midsole mean?

EVA - (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) A diverse midsole material which is durable, lightweight, and provides responsive cushioning
PU - (Polyurethane) A durable, long-lasting midsole material, which gives a firmer ride
TPU - (Thermoplastic Urethane) outsole for superior wear properties.

Are Mustang Safety Boots safety approved?

Yes. All Mustang safety boots are certificated to the AS/NZS 2210.3:2009 safety standard.
